Back to Blacksburg (Take Two or Three or Whatever)

As some of you may or may not know there has been a very recent question of whether or not I'd be able to move back to Blacksburg in the recent near immediate future.  Things have changed again, as they have a tendency to do a lot and often for me, and so it looks like I'll be able to move back as soon as:

1)  I actually have a place to move into and therefore live (whether in Blacksburg, my preference, or nearby enough like Christiansburg so people don't bit..., ehr, complain that I'm forever away.  (The whole concept of just what is nearby continues to amuse me after living in a metropolitan area for over a decade!)
2)  All my stuff is packed up and ready to move, which should occur later this coming week.

So, again, I beg of anyone in the Blacksburg/near-Blacksburg area for suggestions of where to or not to live.

Okay, well, you might want to consider somewhere in Christiansburg as it might cut down on the number of students. For example we had rowdy students next door in Franklin's townhouse.

I can't really be more specific though because I haven't shopped as much for townhouses/houses in this area as apartments (which you don't want). You might want to call one of the local realtors which does rentals.

Well, it's not so much as I don't want an apartment as I'd REALLY prefer not to have one.

I did actually live in a townhouse near downtown when I lived in Blacksburg many years ago, but unfortunately the realtor doesn't have any of those available... *sigh*

Oh, well, I have cleverly... OK, luckily, managed to find someone in town who is also looking for a new place to live so maybe that'll pan out. I suppose I could always post my somewhat long-ish list of NEED, WANT, NICE, and RIGHT OUT things I'm looking for.

I don't know exactly what has happened to prices in the last few years, but I do know that a lot of the people "in B'burg" that we know have drifted out of the town's center. If you have a car and are used to having been in a city, then Christiansburg (especially with the new freeway to Bburg) is really the "same" as Blacksburg, so I'd say look there all you like. I know that the area near C'burg high seems to be pretty popular with the "not a student anymore" crowd..

The car's not the issue so much for me. And, I am technically a student, though admittedly old enough to be the parent of any of your usual aged undergraduates. I guess here are my reasons for preferring Blacksburg:

1) I can walk the entire town (and I really need to walk) without an excessive fear of being run over.
2) Blacksburg has a lot more of the sorts of places that I want to walk to like Gillies (and other liberal places that rubinpdf would disapprove of), friends' places, and various groups that meet on the Virginia Tech campus. (Christiansburg, based on admittedly a very short view going from Radford to Maryland on Memorial Day Weekend, seems to be missing perhaps everything but the friends)
3) Emotionally, Blacksburg has more pull since that's where I lived the whole time I was in the area before. After all, if I were being logical, Radford or Dublin would make more sense depending on where I go to school.
4) Maybe I need to loosen up a lot and liven around a lot of undergraduates who party a lot and... OK, maybe not. ;-P
